The YBNL Playshop FAQ

These are the most common, practical questions about The YBNL Playshop, the cascade exercise, integration, self-study, privacy, and what the training does and does not require.

About The Playshop

What is The YBNL Playshop?

The YBNL Playshop is a self-study workshop in Internal Body Language. It teaches practical skills for reducing the influence of old emotional reactions and increasing present-time awareness.

What is the cascade?

The cascade is the release of old emotional charge while the memory remains. The cascade exercise is the self-study practice taught in The Playshop to train that release.

Practicing the Cascade

When do I practice the cascade?

Practice it when an old upset, anxious reaction, sense of disconnection, or feeling of inadequacy becomes noticeable. You do not need to search for something to work on. Use what naturally comes up during ordinary life.

It does not need to be practiced more than a few times a day, if that many.

How long does the exercise take?

At first, practicing the cascade could take a minute while you focus on the process. With practice and repetition though, the cascade exercise may only take a few seconds.

How long does integration take?

Integration happens through repetition during ordinary life and may continue over a period of weeks or months. The daily practice itself is minimal however.

Immediate relief may appear, however the process usually happens in layers. The internal shifts and changes that happen guide the way towards an uncleavable sense of connection.

Will I have to relive painful experiences?

No. The cascade exercise is not based on searching for painful memories, intensifying emotions, or repeatedly telling the story of what happened. It is about what we are feeling in our body now.

Your Body Never Lies works with unwanted body language when it arises, and it is dissipated quickly by correct use of the cascade exercise. In my experience, with myself and while facilitating others, the result is one of relief and sometimes of a sudden lightness.

Does The Playshop erase memories?

No. The purpose is not to erase memory or deny history. The aim is to reduce the emotional charge and present-time reaction attached to memories that have continued to be stressful. Whether a memory is two days or two decades old, if it continues to cause stress (by stirring up emotions or behaviors, for example), the cascade can shift the unresolved charge without requiring us to deliberately revisit or relive the memory. Then later, when the memory returns, we'll notice the lack of charge or upset.

Do I need special equipment or products?

No. The cascade exercise does not require equipment, supplements, special clothing, ceremonies, or anything outside yourself. It is a mindful exercise in self-observation with a brief meditation when appropriate.

Put simply, you need your own body and enough awareness to notice when you feel inadequate, disconnected, upset, or otherwise triggered.

Privacy and Personal History

Do I have to describe my personal history?

No. The central work occurs within you. The course does not require publicly recounting stressful events or receiving someone else's interpretation of what happened.

Members do not evaluate each other's history.

Independence and Support

Will I need ongoing sessions with Brian?

No. The Playshop is designed to teach a self-directed skill. I am available for questions and clarification, but the exercise itself is practiced independently.

Can I repeat the lessons?

Yes. You can return to the lessons and review the training whenever you'd like to.

Is support available?

Yes. The YBNL College includes academic and social activity feeds, messaging and livestreams. You may connect with me or with other students as you wish. The campus has much to explore and you may post or comment as much or as little as you wish.

Is this a guru-based program?

No. The Playshop is intentionally guru-free. The purpose is to strengthen trust in your own Internal Body Language rather than transfer personal authority to an outside source.

Many of the exercises are designed to increase your sense of ownership and control of your body and personal space, and to increase your sense of freedom to make your own choices.

Beliefs and Scope

Do I have to adopt a spiritual belief?

No. Practice the exercises and evaluate the results through your own experience. What works, works. There is no need to have your experience interpreted by someone else. The campus motto, "Results Tell the Truth," is a reference to the scientific method and to the self-study feedback mechanism used in classes. Put another way, "Your experience is your teacher." The classes simply point you to those experiences.

Is The Playshop therapy?

No. The YBNL Playshop is educational self-study training. It is not medical treatment, psychotherapy, diagnosis, or a substitute for appropriate professional care. YBNL does not analyze, diagnose or treat past stressful events. It examines the mechanism that causes some memories to remain emotionally charged after the event has passed.

Who The Playshop Is For

Who is The Playshop for?

The Playshop is intended for people seeking greater freedom from a stressful history that continues influencing their present outlook, emotional baseline, relationships, reactions, or choices.

It is also intended for people who feel stuck, unable to follow their dreams, unable to achieve an aspiration, or simply unable to shift something they are genuinely choosing to change.

Who teaches The Playshop?

I do. I developed The Playshop and I present the exercises and the theories behind them on video and livestream. I am on campus every day to answer questions, post encouragement and develop the campus further.

Students can ask questions or share their experience as they see fit. Many members simply watch the lessons and practice on their own for a while, then return to share an epiphany or confirm a new perception.
